Creating a master check list is one of the best ways to keep from feeling overwhelmed.
On average you will give yourself 9-12 months to plan for your wedding day.


12-9 Months prior to the wedding
  • First Announce your engagement! - Send card to family and friends and a notice to your local newspaper.
  • Set the date
  • Determine your budget
  • Create the initial guest list
  • Research & reserve ceremony site and officiant
  • Research & reserve reception site
  • Select your wedding party attendants
  • Get the gown!
6-9 Months Before
  • Choose your colors
  • Select bridal party dresses, shoes & accessories
  • Apply for or renew passports or visas as needed
  • Research & select the essentials
    • Florist
    • Photographer & videographer
    • DJ or Band
    • Baker (the Cake)
    • Caterer
4-6 Months Before
  • Finalize guest list
  • Order invitations and other stationary
  • Mail save the date cards
  • Select/purchase/reserve attire for the groom and attendants
  • Plan rehearsal dinner
  • Meet with essential people
    • Florist
    • Photographer & videographer
    • Ceremony musicians
    • DJ/Band
    • Baker
    • Caterer
    • Officiant
    • Decorator - Sash Weddings
  • Shop and order wedding rings
  • Plan the honeymoon
  • Arrange hotel /lodging accommodations for wedding night and out-of-town guests
  • Book Transportation for wedding day
  • Register for gifts
  • Obtain a marriage license
2-4 Months Before
  • Assemble and address the invitations
  • Buy shoes for your dress fitting & undergarments
  • Purchase gift for the wedding party and others as appropriate
  • send out newsletter to out-of-town guests
  • Attend wedding showers, bachelorette party, etc.  Do not for get hostess gift!
  • Finalize menu items with caterer
  • Order/make favors
  • Finalize music for reception and ceremony
  • Schedule appointment for dress fitting
  • Schedule appointment for nails, makeup & hair
2-6 Weeks Before
  • Contact guests that have not responded
  • Confirm ceremony details with officiant
  • Finalize rehearsal dinner plans
  • Finalize head count with caterer and figure out table layout and seating
  • Complete menu cards, place cards, escort cards, table numbers, etc.
  • Arrange final fitting for wedding gown & bridesmaid dresses
  • Confirm honeymoon plans, tickets and reservations
  • Provide attendants with a list of duties
Final Week
  • Pack for honeymoon - do not forget your passport!
  • Pack for wedding night
  • Pick up bride and groom attire
Rehearsal Day
  • Deliver favors, decoration and guest book to ceremony and reception locations
  • Provide each member of your wedding party with a detailed schedule of events for your wedding day
  • Review ceremony seating with ushers
  • Hand out payments to selected vendors
